The journey begins in Kathmandu where you stay one night and prepare for the following trek. After a stay at Kathmandu, the following day you start your journey to Nepalgunj, which is accessible by a short flight from Kathmandu. From Nepalgunj, you have to take another short flight of approximately forty five minutes to reach our very first place of your journey called Simikot. Despite being so close to the city it still is a remote area where you can witness ancient Nepali culture and some Tibetan cultures as well. Our trek departs from Simikot heading northwest towards the Tibet border, passing through several small villages along the way. The trail is steep and rocky, but the views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. As you ascend higher, the air gets thinner, and you may feel the effects of altitude sickness.

Overview

The Limi Valley Trek is a distinctive trekking path that leads to the Limi Valley nestled in Nepal’s far northwest. The journey is a unique experience that includes camping and being fully immersed in the Limi Valley’s natural beauty and culture.

The Limi Valley trek gives you a chance to witness eye-gazing landscapes along with panoramic views of majestic mountains throughout the trekking route.

The trek provides you an opportunity to get along with rich cultures and traditions of Limi people.
You will get to visit ancient monasteries and pilgrimage sites that date back to the 12th century.
Throughout the trekking route you will be exposed to different species of wild animals, birds, flora and faunas, etc.
Pass through high altitude passes including Nyalu La Pass which is 4995 meters above the sea level.

This trek has so much to offer you throughout the journey including magnificent panoramic mountain views of majestic mountains such as Mt. Saipal (7031m), Mt. Kanjirowa (6883m), Mt. Api (7132m), Mt. Kailash (6638m), etc. Following the rote you will also have the opportunity to witness various species of wildlife animals, birds, flora and faunas, etc.

After several days of trekking, you will reach the Limi Valley, which is a vast, open valley surrounded by towering mountains. The valley is home to the Limi people, who are a Tibetan ethnic group with a unique culture and way of life. The Limi people are known for their hospitality and warmth, and they will welcome you into their homes and offer you traditional Tibetan food.

Day 01 :

Arrival at Kathmandu

After you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu, our representatives will receive you and transfer you to the hotel. You can spend the rest of your day sightseeing the city as the city itself is rich in religious and cultural heritages.

Day 02 :

Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

You will take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a small city in the western Terai region of Nepal.

Day 03 :

Fly from Nepalgunj to Simikot (2910m/9550ft)

Take an early morning flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot, the administrative center of the Humla district. Upon arrival, you will have some time to explore the town and get acclimatized to the altitude.

Day 04 :

Trek from Simikot to Dharapori (2300m/7545ft)

The trek begins today with a gradual ascent through beautiful pine forests and past traditional villages. The trail is relatively easy and will take you to Dharapori, where you will spend the night.

Day 05 :

Trek from Dharapori to Kermi

You will continue to follow the Humla Karnali River and pass through small villages and terraced fields. The trail will take you to Kermi, a village famous for its hot springs.

Day 06 :

Trek from Kermi to Yalbang (3020m/9920ft)

The trail today will take you through beautiful forests of pine and juniper, as well as past small settlements of the Limi Valley. You will cross the Karnali River and arrive at Yalbang, a village known for its Buddhist gompa (monastery).

Day 07 :

Trek from Yalbang to Tumkot(3380m/11089ft)

The trek will take you through beautiful landscapes and past traditional villages. You will pass through Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in the region, before arriving at Tumkot.

Day 08 :

Trek from Tumkot to Thado dhunga (3750m/12,200ft)

Today you will trek up to the village of Thado dhunga where you can witness ancient monasteries and amazing landscapes.

Day 09 :

Trek from Thado Dhunga to Hilsa(3720m/12000 ft) through Nara La Pass (4620m/15,160m)

Today you will visit the town of Hilsa passing through the second highest pass of the trek that is Nara La Pass which is at the elevation of 4620m/14,768 feet above the sea level.

Day 10 :

Acclimatisation day at Hilsa

Today you will be given time to acclimatize to the elevation you have come so far and the altitude yet to conquer. You have time to explore Hilsa which has a lot to offer you.

Day 11 :

Trek from Hilsa to Manepeme (3900m/14095ft)

The trek today will take you to the beautiful village of Manepeme. This place is famous for various wildlife creatures such as snow leopard and himalayan blue sheep.

Day 12 :

Trek from Manepeme to Til Village (4000m/14495ft)

The trail today will take you through beautiful landscapes and past traditional villages. You will spend your night today at Til village where you can experience the Buddist culture and structures such as Kunjum Donag monastery dating back centuries.

Day 13 :

Trek from Til Village to Jang Village (3930m/14256ft)

Today, you will catch some elevation leaving the beautiful village of Halji behind and proceed towards Jang Village trekking for about 4-5 hours approximately. But if you want we can set up a campsite at Halji village also.

Day 14 :

Trek from Jang Village to Talung (4370m/15014 ft)

Today you will trek up to Talung and rest for the upcoming trek tomorrow where you will cross the highest pass of the journey. From Talung if you want, you can opt to trek to Lake Mansarovar. It takes additional 2 camps if you choose to trek to Mansarovar from Talung.

Day 15 :

Trek from Talung to Shinjungma(3620m/11990ft) via Nyalu La Pass (4995m) (16,388ft).

Today you will head towards Shinjungma passing through the highest point of the journey that is Nyalu La Pass which is at the altitude of 4995 meters and 16,388 feet.

Day 16 :

Trek from Shinjungma to Sallikhola

The trail will take you through beautiful landscapes and past traditional villages. You will descend to Sallikhola, where you will camp by the riverside. Most people trek to Kermi but we want you to have memorable moments while returning too. You will have a great time camping by the riverside.

Day 17 :

Trek from Sallikhola to Simikot

You will retrace your steps back to Simikot, the administrative center of the Humla district.

Day 18 :

Fly from Simikot to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu

You will take an early morning flight from Simikot to Nepalgunj, and then another flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you can rest and relax, or explore the city and its many attractions.

Day 19 :

International Departure

Your Limi Valley Trek comes to an end today. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time in Kathmandu before departing for your onward journey.

How difficult is Limi Valley Trek ?

The difficulty level of trekking are classified into Easy, Moderate, Strenuous and very Strenuous. The classification is done according to the basic factors affecting the trek such as altitude of the trek, the complexion of the trail, the time duration of the trek, the level of fitness you need for the trek, etc. The Limi Valley trek is regarded as the Strenuous trek, in other words it is the challenging trek which lies just above the moderate trek as you have to walk for about seven to eight hours for several days so physical fitness is also required for trek. Another difficulty that might occur is because of altitude sickness, the highest elevation you will travel is at 4995 meters above sea level so if you are not familiar with such kind of altitude is to give some time to acclimatize with the surroundings and then proceed. Weather might be another aspect that would affect your trekking experience, so its better to travel in time of the year where the weather is not too harsh on you.

Best time to travel Limi Valley:

As previously said, the time of year you visit Limi Valley may have an impact on your hiking experience. Because it is located in Nepal’s northwestern area, Humla district has harsh winters with considerable temperature dips and snowfall at its height, making your travel rather unpleasant. As a result, it is preferable to avoid winter throughout the voyage. Fall and spring are the two seasons that are ideal for a better trekking experience due to the beautiful weather and temperatures that are neither hot nor chilly. The Limi Valley is best visited in the autumn months of September to November, when the weather is dry, clear, and colder. The vistas of the Himalayas are stunning during this time of year.

It is important to note that the Limi Valley is a remote region with limited infrastructure, and the weather can be unpredictable. Therefore, it is advisable to check weather and road conditions before planning your trip and be prepared for any possible delays or changes in your itinerary.

Permits during trek :

As this Limi Valley trek is linked with neighboring countries like Tibet, it is called restricted trekking routes in Nepal and requires a special permit from Nepal government.It has only been opened for trekking about one or two decades ago, until that time it was a restricted area because it raised various concerns like geographical and cultural issues, safety of the tourists, etc. Now it is open as trekking route but the permit can only be obtained through local trekking agencies in Nepal. So, as a travel agency based in Nepal we can easily manage your trekking permits.

First seven days will cost you US $50 per person and after seven days it will be US $10 per day for the rest of the trip.

As a foreigner, you will need to have valid visa of Nepal lasting your entire trip, and you will also have to submit your passport along with four copies of passport size photos.
