From Kathmandu, the tour heads towards the small border town of Kerung in Tibet, which is located at an altitude of around 2,800 meters above sea level. The journey from Kathmandu to Kerung is a scenic drive that takes you through picturesque valleys, winding roads, and small towns. The drive usually takes around 10 hours approximately, and you will cross the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi.

Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a pilgrimage to the sacred Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake in Tibet, which is considered holy by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. The journey usually starts from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.

From Kathmandu, the tour heads towards the small border town of Kerung in Tibet, which is located at an altitude of around 2,800 meters above sea level. The journey from Kathmandu to Kerung is a scenic drive that takes you through picturesque valleys, winding roads, and small towns. The drive usually takes around 10 hours approximately, and you will cross the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi.

Once you arrive at Kerung, you will stay there for a night to acclimatize to the high altitude before heading towards the holy Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. During your stay in Kerung, you can explore the local market and enjoy the beautiful views of the Himalayan ranges.

The next day, the tour continues towards the holy Mount Kailash, which is located at an altitude of around 6,638 meters above sea level. The journey from Kerung to Mount Kailash takes around 3 days and includes stops at Darchen, Dirapuk, and Zuthulpuk.

At Darchen, you will get to see the majestic Mount Kailash up close and visit the nearby temples and monasteries. From there, the journey continues towards Dirapuk, where you will trek for around 6 to 7 hours to reach the base of Mount Kailash. Along the way, you will cross the Dolma La Pass, which is the highest point of the trek at around 5,636 meters above sea level.

After spending a night at Dirapuk, the tour continues towards Zuthulpuk, where you will visit the Zuthulpuk Monastery, which is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. From there, the journey back to Kathmandu starts, and you will cross the Nepal-China border at Kerung.
